Target audience: Teachers, school leaders, special education teachers, ANAs, and anyone seeking effective, relationship-based approaches to supporting children and young people.

Session 1 - Key Themes/Paradigm Shifts 

Session 2 - Identifying skills and unsolved problems: The ASUP

Session 3 - The Plans and Plan B

Session 4 - Plan B Examples, Discussion, Nuances, and Implementation

Following these sessions, participants will be able to:

• Understand how the Collaborative and Proactive Solutions (CPS) model focuses on identifying and solving problems rather than managing behaviours.
• Recognise the benefits of solving problems collaboratively over adult-imposed solutions and understand how this approach can reduce concerning behaviour and strengthen relationships.
• Identify the skills that can make it difficult for some children to handle problems and frustrations adaptively. 
• Describe the three ways adults handle unsolved problems and unmet expectations. (Plans A, B, and C) and what is accomplished by each.
• Outline the three steps of a Plan B conversation and become familiar with the questioning style and strategies used in CPS.
• Describe how to effectively implement Plan B and the various roadblocks that can occur in implementation (and how to overcome them)

Bio of Presenters:

Dr Ross Greene

Dr Ross Greene is a clinical psychologist and the originator of the innovative, evidence-based CPS model, as described in his influential books The Explosive Child, Lost at School, Lost & Found, Raising Human Beings, and the recently-released The Kids Who Aren’t Okay. Dr. Greene was on the faculty at Harvard Medical School for over 20 years, and now oversees the non-profit he founded in 2009, Lives in the Balance, which advocates legislatively on behalf of kids with concerning behaviors and their caregivers and provides training and vast free resources on the CPS model. He is also currently adjunct Professor in the Department of Psychology at Virginia Tech and adjunct Professor in the Faculty of Science at the University of Technology in Sydney, Australia.

Ruth Eadie

Ruth Eadie is a primary school principal with over two decades of experience in education. She has a particular interest in student wellbeing, positive behaviour support and inclusive school practice. Ruth is passionate about the potential of Collaborative & Proactive Solutions (CPS) to help Ireland’s educators better understand behaviour, strengthen relationships and create school environments where all students can thrive.
