This training course details how to implement the 2025 Wellbeing Curriculum within Special Education Teaching (SET), shifting school cultures from reactive crisis management to proactive, relationship-centered co-regulation.

Grounded in the NCSE Relate framework and the Primary Curriculum Framework, the course is built on the core principle that a dysregulated child is biologically incapable of accessing cognitive learning. It provides school leaders, SENCOs, and SET teams with systemic tools to restructure timetables around student capacity, streamline behavioural tracking via practical observation checklists, and maximize collaborative SET and SNA partnerships.

Furthermore, the training equips educators with trauma-informed, zero-cost regulation strategies—including physical "heavy work" routines, multi-sensory grounding, and structured small-group session plans—to foster emotional resilience and reclaim valuable teaching and learning time.

Bio of Presenter: Neasa Ní Lionáird

Neasa Ní Lionáird is a primary school teacher, SENCO and Acting Deputy Principal with over 20 years’ teaching experience in Ireland and Australia. She holds a BEd from Coláiste Mhuire Marino and Trinity College Dublin and an MEd from Dublin City University.

Neasa has extensive experience across mainstream, SET and Nurture settings. She is a certified Nurture Practitioner, Roots of Empathy Instructor, Rainbows Ireland Facilitator and children’s yoga teacher.

Her professional interests include children’s wellbeing, inclusion, emotional regulation and the development of supportive, relationship-centred approaches to teaching and learning. She has also contributed to professional development and curriculum work within the ETB sector, including work relating to social and ethnic diversity, sustainability and wellbeing.
