Friends for Life Primary - 3rd & 4th April 2017 FRIENDS for Life Post Primary 5th & 6th April

NEPS in association with the Education Centre Tralee are giving advance notice of a two-day facilitator training course for the “FRIENDS for Life programme which will take place on:  

Monday, 3rd April & Tuesday, 4th April 2017

This evidence-based anxiety prevention and resiliency building programme is designed for use in schools.   It is particularly suitable for children from 3rd to 6th classes as part of their SPHE programme.   An information leaflet is attached. 

This programme can be used with whole classes or targeted groups and is suitable for a wide range of personnel/facilitators, including: Principals; Deputy Principals; SPHE or Health Promotion Coordinators; Resource/Learning Support Teachers or class teachers.   As this course is in high demand, the numbers of teachers allowed per school are as follows:

Schools with <100 students can send one teacher to the training course.

Schools with between 100-300 students can send two teachers to training. 

Schools with >300 students can send three teachers to training. 

 Post Primary Schools

‘FRIENDS for Life’ and ‘MY FRIENDS Youth’ Training

5th & 6th April 2017 (9.30a.m.-3.30p.m)

Venue:  The Education Centre, Tralee.

This programme can be used with whole classes or targeted groups and is suitable for a wide range of personnel/facilitators, including: SPHE Coordinators; Guidance Counsellors; SEN teachers; Year Heads; Pastoral Care members; Deputy Principals or Principals.  As this course is expected to be in high demand, up to two teachers per school can be trained. 

If you are interested in reserving places please book on-line www.edcentretralee.ie before 16th March 2017.  Places will be limited.  It will be on a first come first serve basis.  There will be 30 places in total on the course.  In the interim, if you have questions, please contact your NEPS Psychologist.

Measures Workshops March 2017 - Suitable for all Primary  Teachers

4Workshop 1 Explore how pupils develop their conceptual understanding of Length, Area and Weight, followed by engaging in a range of practical activities, examining the opportunities for genuine linkage and integration of measures across the curriculum.

4Workshop 2 This follow-on workshop explores how pupils develop their conceptual understanding of Capacity, Time and Money. The practical activities are designed to engage all pupils in seeing the real-life application of measures.

As part of the National Literacy Strategy, National Educational Psychological Service (NEPS) have developed a new on-line resource for use by Irish primary teachers. The Balanced Approach to Literacy Development in the Early Years draws on international research, evidence based practice and samples of that practice in Irish primary schools to give a coherent and comprehensive guide to teachers.
