In these uncertain times, this webinar will look at the challenges for pupils with autism in returning to school setting. This session is suitable for primary and post-primary teachers in ASD classes and also teachers of pupils with autism in mainstream settings.
Facilitator Shaun Greville is returning to school in the Esker Centre, Ballinamere after 5 years secondment to the SESS and latterly NCSE. He fulfilled the roles of Advisor and Assistant National Coordinator for the autism team with a focus on in school support for teachers and both in school and external CPD regarding autism.

Biography
Úna O’Driscoll is a graduate of Mary Immaculate College in Limerick City, where she completed her Bachelor of Education. Her areas of expertise are in mathematics, digital technologies and wellbeing. She is currently a full-time primary school teacher and holds the position of Assistant Principal 1 in her school in Limerick city. She works part-time as an associate with the PDST in the area of Digital Technologies. Having obtained first-class honours in the liberal arts mathematics component of her degree, Úna also teaches part-time in in the Liberal Arts Department of Mathematics and Computer Studies in Mary Immaculate College. She is the regional manager of Lego Education in Limerick and Clare, managing camps for children from 6 years of age to teenagers. The course is a practical hands - on week of learning in the beautiful setting of Gortbrack Organic Farm, Ballyseedy, Tralee.
Elements covered include planning and designing the Living Classroom, basic gardening skills, outdoor classroom management and linking the formal and informal Curriculum within the Living Classroom.
Promoting Well-being through the Living Classroom is a central feature of this Course. The objective is to introduce teachers to the concept of using the school grounds as an educational resource or ‘Living Classroom’ where practical activities can be undertaken to support and implement the Curriculum formally and informally. The development of Literacy and Numeracy skills and the promotion of life skills leading to positive well-being and health are predominant themes throughout the Course. The Course will also enable participants to work with their pupils to assess their particular school grounds and plan long term improvements.

The Balanced Approach to Literacy Development in the Early Years draws on international research, evidence based practice and samples of that practice in Irish primary schools to give a coherent and comprehensive guide to teachers. It is also aligned with the new Primary Language Curriculum.
This is a resource that can be used by class teachers working with children from Junior Infants to First Class. It may also be helpful to schools who have identified the need to improve reading and literacy standards as part of the school-self-evaluation process. Teacher Artist Partnership (TAP) CPD Summer Course is an arts-in-education initiative where Artists and Teachers train to work in partnership. This programme can lead to opportunities for a TAP trained teacher to host a fully funded TAP artist residency in his or her school in the coming academic year. This Creative Youth, Department of Education and Skills led primary initiative is a highly innovative, creative and participant-responsive programme that promotes professional learning towards partnership. TAP online maximises engagement through a broad range of on and off-line activities. Learning activities include practical, multidisciplinary arts experiences through multimedia interactives, video instruction, collaborative posting boards and discussion forums and reflective practices. Tutors, teachers and artists provide responsive feedback and encourage collaborators to reflect on personal and professional development through the co-creation of learning. TAP’s core focus is the development of creative partnership between teachers and artists.

The overall aim of this course is to support the teaching of water safety as part of the Strand Myself, Strand Unit Safety and Protection (Personal Safety) in the SPHE programme.
It aims to increase teachers’ knowledge and awareness of water safety at sea, on inland waterways, on the farm, in swimming pools and at home, through the use of factual information and local evidence of water safety incidents.
Teachers will explore lesson content exemplars and teaching methodologies and provide a variety of resources suitable for teaching and discussing water safety. Learn how water safety lessons can be evaluated and assessed and how it may be situated within the context of the school self-evaluation process.
The course will also enable teachers to enhance their awareness of their own safety when in, on and near water.
